It is nice and soft when you apply it to your eye so you don't have to press hard or apply it over and over to get enough on. I love the rich chocolate color as well, not too dark, but also not a light brown. The only criticism is the thickness of the pencil nib. For day time use when you don't want your makeup to be too dark its difficult to apply it onto your lid without drawing a thick line.
